KORUND insulation material is provided with a full package of required certificates and fully complies with the claimed technical parameters.

KORUND consists of high-quality binder, specially developed formulation of catalytic and fixing agents, superfine ceramic microspheres with rarefied air. The main composition of the material is supplemented by special additives that prevent development of corrosion on metal surface and growth of fungus on concrete surfaces in high humidity. This combination makes the material light, flexible, and expandable and ensures its excellent adhesion to the surfaces being coated. In terms of consistence, the material is similar to common paint: it is white suspension that can be laid on any surface. Upon drying, it forms elastic polymeric coating that has unique heat-insulating properties as compared to conventional heat-insulating materials and ensures corrosion protection. The unique character of Korund insulating properties is attributed to strong molecular action of rarefied air inside hollow spheres.

Korund is high-performance material for heat insulation of building facades, roofs, internal walls, splayed jambs, concrete floors, hot and cold water pipelines, steam pipelines, air ducts for conditioning systems, cooling systems, various tanks, vessels, trailers, refrigerators, etc. It is used to eliminate condensate on cold water pipes and to reduce heat losses in heating systems as per SNiP (construction norms and rules). The operating temperature of the material ranges from – 60°С to + 250°С. The service life of the material is 15 years and more. Currently, our material is used at facilities and enterprises in various business fields.

How does material operate in terms of thermal physics?

To begin with, there are three ways of heat transmission:

  1. Heat conductivity – transfer of heat in a solid body through kinetic energy of molecules and atoms from more heated body part to less heated one.
  2. Convection – transfer of heat in liquids, gases, loose media by flows of the substance proper.
  3. Radiant heat exchange (heat radiation) – electromagnetic radiation emitted by substance and developed out of its internal energy.

Thermodynamics is a science that studies laws of energy transformation and transfer. These processes result in temperature balance in system as a whole. It is the way the insulating material blocks heat redistribution and the efficiency of such block, i.e. the process of temperature equilibrium, that determines the quality of insulation.

Heat emission – convective or radiant heat exchange between the solid body surface and the environment. Intensity of this heat exchange is evaluated in terms of heat-emission factor.

Liquid ceramic heat-insulating material KORUND is a complex multilevel structure where all three ways of heat transfer are minimized.

Microspheres account for 80% of ceramic heat-insulating material composition, therefore, only 20% of the binder can conduct heat by own heat conductivity. The other share of heat is accounted for convection and radiation; since the microsphere contains rarefied air (the best insulator rivaled only by vacuum), there are minor heat losses. Moreover, thanks to its structure, the material has low surface emission, which is crucial for the thermophysics of the material.

Therefore, one should distinguish between two terms: insulant and heat-insulating material, since the physics of heat transfer process in these materials is different:
-         the operation principle of insulant is based on heat conductivity of the material (mineral wool plate)
-         that of heat-insulating material depends to a greater extent on wave physics.

Efficiency of insulant is directly related to thickness: the thicker the insulant coat is, the better.
Thickness of heat-insulating layer in KORUND coating ranges from 1 to 6 mm, subsequent increase has practically no influence on its efficiency.

Today, Korund has the following industrial types:

1. KORUND Classic

2. KORUND Anticor

Unique material that can be laid directly on rusty surface has been developed for the first time in Russia. It is sufficient to remove raw (loose) rust with wire brush; after that one can apply KORUND Anticor heat insulation in compliance with the instruction.

Korund Anticor heat insulation is high performance heat insulating coating: apart from being conserving agent and corrosion modifier, it displays additional anticorrosion properties. All technical characteristics, requirements, application instructions are similar to those of the main KORUND material. Use of KORUND Anticor for heat insulation of existing structures and pipelines significantly reduces labor costs, since no special preparation of the working surface is required. Korund Anticor heat insulation can be applied as the first coat, while "traditional" KORUND heat insulation can be used for further coats (for cost saving purposes).

3. KORUND Winter

The material that can be handled at temperature as low as -10°С has been developed for the first time in Russia. Korund Winter is the recent development in the line of superfine liquid ceramic heat-insulating materials. Unlike all other liquid ceramic heat-insulating materials (LCHIM) on the Russian market, Korund Winter can be applied at subzero temperatures, as low as -10°С, while the minimum temperature of conventional LCHIM application cannot be lower than +5°С. Korund Winter includes combination of special acrylic polymers with microspheres of foam glass dispersed in it, as well as coloring admixtures, flame retardants, rheological and inhibiting agents.

4. KORUND Facade

The first in the world material that can be laid in coats up to 1 mm thick at a time and that has increased vapor permeabilty.

 

The following types will be launched soon (laboratory samples are already available):

  • Korund Anticondensate. It has higher probability of success in condensate removal as compared to Conventional modification and all existing analogs.
  • Korund Vulkan. Superfine heat-insulating material with operating temperature range up to + 540°С.

The products we create are based on our experience in making domestic analogs that have already gained recognition on the market of professional heat insulation and have the following advantages:

  • They can be laid on metal, plastics, concrete, brick and other construction materials, as well as on equipment, pipelines and air ducts.
  • Ideal adhesion to metals, plastics, propylene; making it possible to insulate the covered surface from water and air.
  • Waterproof and not affected by aqueous solution of salt. Coverings protect the surface against moisture, rainfall and temperature difference.
  • Efficient in reduction of heat losses and enhancement of anticorrosion protection.
  • Protection of the surface against condensation.
  • Covering coat of 1 mm thickness ensures the same insulating properties as 50 mm of blanket insulation or brick work in 1 to 1.5 brick.
  • Can be applied to surfaces of any shape.
  • Do not impose additional loads on load carrying structures.
  • Prevention of temperature deformations of metal structures.
  • Reflection of up to 85% of radiant energy.
  • Constant access to the insulated surface for inspection without need to suspend production, without down time for repair and faults of production equipment.
  • No destruction under the influence of UV light.
  • Quick application of coverings reduces labor costs as compared to conventional heat-insulating materials (easy and quick to brush or apply with an air sprayer).
  • Easy repair and restoration.
  • Self-extinguishing insulating material. Carbonizes at 260°С, decomposes at 800°С with release of carbon oxide and nitrogen oxide, which inhibits flame propagation.
  • Environmentally safe, non-toxic, free of hazardous volatile organic compounds.
  • Alkali stability.
  • Hydrogen ion exponent (pH) 8.5 to 9.5
  • Complete drying time of one coat - 24 hours
  • Design heat conductivity at 20°С 0.001 W/m °С
  • Complete certification in Russia.

Currently, there are liquid ceramic heat-insulating materials on the Russian market that attract customers thanks to wide application and ease of use at low labor costs. Since the materials offered are mainly produced abroad, they cost a lot, and this limits their mass use in construction, power engineering, housing and public utilities, etc. While domestic analogs often leave much to be desired; moreover, their  poor quality and ultrahigh extra charge for "know how" give the end user negative impression and make feel prejudiced to liquid ceramic heat-insulating materials.
